This year I made extra special plans for my birthday at Half Mile Farm. I took unplugged from everything and had a special mom vacation all to myself! Earlier this year my husband and I visited Highlands, NC and Old Edwards Inn. We had the best experience so I knew this was the perfect choice for my special trip alone!
As moms we spend so much of our time taking care of everyone else, and sometimes we need to take a moment to take care of ourselves too! I was so excited to have this opportunity to step away from life’s stressors and just relax. Having this time away helped me to unwind and come back to my family and business refreshed and ready for my busy fall photography season, you can view my work here. I’m sharing all the details of my mini retreat in this travel guide to Highlands NC featuring Old Edwards Inn and it’s sister location, Half Mile Farm!
My trip started at the stunning Old Edwards Inn & Spa. I began the day with an 80 minute massage that was a dream. One of the best parts of this property is that every part is beautiful and catered to providing a relaxing experience. After the massage, I enjoyed a delicious lunch in the spa’s sunroom restaurant. I ended my spa experience in the hot sauna.
Once I left the spat at Old Edwards Inn, I enjoyed some shopping in Highlands and dessert at my favorite ice cream spot, SweeTreats Craft Ice Cream. Then I headed over to Old Edward’s Inn’s sister location, Half Mile Farm.
Half Mile Farm is an adult only property that is a 5 minute drive from The Spa and downtown Highlands. The 14 acre property is settled on Apple Lake and has beautiful foliage in the fall. As you approach Half Mile Farm you are welcomed with tranquil views, a flower garden, rustic cabins, and the main farm house.
Upon my arrival I was greeted with a glass of champagne & such great care is taken to provide the best service for guests. Warm apple cider and freshly baked oatmeal cookies were waiting for arriving guests. One of my favorite touches was the vintage soda coolers around the property, with glass bottles of cokes available for guests.
I stayed in the Luxury Woodland Balcony Suite. It featured a fireplace, heated bathroom floors and towel rack, soaking tub, and multi-jetted shower. It was the perfect space to relax and recharge!
After checking in, I grabbed an apple cider mule from J. Henry Farmhouse Tavern and enjoyed reading my newest Dolly Parton magazine on the side porch. Later I enjoyed the BEST grilled cheese and tomato bisque for dinner. To make it even more relaxing, I had dinner in bed while watching my ultimate fall comfort show, Gilmore Girls!
The breakfast is complimentary and was absolutely delicious. I love that they have an in-house 5 star chef so that you can enjoy food on site. If you do wish to go back into town, a shuttle service is available for guests.
I have stayed at both The Old Edwards Inn and Half Mile Farm and have thoroughly enjoyed both properties! I loved the experience so much that I’ve already booked a return trip for next October! The great thing about Half Mile Farm is that you can do as little or as much as you want and still have a wonderful, relaxing vacation.
