Atlanta Cake Smash Photographer | First Birthday Session Guide
As an Atlanta cake smash photographer who averages FIVE to SEVEN first-birthday portrait sessions each month, I would say I have plenty of experience documenting first birthdays! First birthdays are always such a joy to photograph & (as you can see below) are so much FUN!
What To Expect:
First birthday sessions are typically an hour, which allows for plenty of time for individual portraits of your little one, updated family portraits & then the fun part…. cake! We provide most things (children’s chairs, wooden blocks, silver rattle, antique high chairs & so much more!!) at our natural light studio. It’s important to note that families can incorporate & bring as much or as little as they would like; brining “ALL THE THINGS” is NOT A MUST!
Individual Portraits: As an Atlanta smash cake photographer, families can expect their little one’s first birthday portrait session to start with individual portraits. The beginning of our time together will focus on capturing their baby’s personalitiy & is the perfect opportunity us to capture those timless & classic portraits that we are KNOWN FOR! For individual portraits many children will wear a simple or personalized outfit that’s special & timeless…just for their special day!
Family Portraits: Next, we’ll bring the whole family together for updated family portraits! Many families choose for their little ones to wear a different/family-coordinating outfit for family portraits. This is a great time for parents & siblings to spend time with the birthday girl or boy, celebrating their special day! Best of all, moms & children have access to my client wardrobe. Mom’s can schedule a wardrobe appointment at our studio with our stylist, Charlotte. Charlotte will help to plan out each & every outfit for your session!
Birthday Accessories and Cake: As an Atlanta Cake Smash Photographer & someone who loves all things southern & personalized; I LOVE documenting any personalized & specialy birthday items (listed below). Additionally, I also love when families bring a single balloon for babies to play with. Afterward, is the fun & last part of the session… CAKE! I believe it’s truly so special when siblings are involved in enjoying cake, too (see examples below).
What To Bring:
Cake: We suggest a simple, tiny white cake with white icing. Many families choose to purchase these from Publix. In additiona, we also suggest mentioning to the bakery to apply a very thin “skim” of icing. Most babies have never experienced sweets before & loads of icing can deter them from really digging in!
Special Items: Many families choose to bring special outfits or personalized items for their Atlanta cake smash session portrait sessions. A few ideas are simple monogrammed outfits/bibs, birthday cake topper, monogrammed birthday bib, personalized cake plate or personalized high chair banner.
